There are a plethora of things that we would love to see become unnecessary - plastic surgery and dieting, to name a few. However, most of us couldn’t imagine a world where sex would become unnecessary. Scientists, on the other hand, can…at least for reproduction, that is. The possibilities that come with sex becoming obsolete are many, and it’s often pretty amazing to think of what could come from it. Specialists believe having sex become obsolete will change the way we look at genders, parenting, or even health.
What would a world without sex be like? Tell us in the comments below!
Professor Henry Greely Believes That Sex Could Become Unnecessary For Reproduction In As Little As 20 Years. Greely, who is currently the Director at the Center for Law and the Biosciences at Stanford University, says that "designer babies" are just within reach.
Reproduction, Version 2.0? “In 20 to 40 years, when a couple wants a baby, he’ll provide sperm and she’ll provide a punch of skin,” said Greely. After the skin sample is collected, it will be converted into stem cells and egg cells.

Once The Samples Are Collected… After the egg cells are combined with the sperm cells, doctors will actually be able to watch them grow into embryos and study said embryos.

Baby By Design. The doctors will tell parents which ones are the healthiest, what the embryos will look like, and more. Parents will be able to choose everything from a baby’s risk of illness to a baby’s eye color through this process.
Down To The Personality? According to Greely, doctors will also be able to detect which babies will probably be the smartest of the bunch - and which ones will likely have personality disorders.

Thank You, IVF. The hard work scientists have done to create IVF treatments paved the way for this. But, there’s more.

Synthetic Uteruses. A group of scientists recently made synthetic uteruses that would be capable of gestating real babies. So, even giving birth might be something that could be lost to history eventually.
Cost-Efficient? Greely says that the lowered risk of birth defects and illnesses would make this a highly cost-efficient and responsible move.

The Social Implications Are Grand. Many speculate that it’s a move that will have very far-reaching consequences in society. Greely believes that natural birth and reproductive sex will become stigmatized and viewed as irresponsible.

Others Believe It Will Make It Possible For Gay Couples To Reproduce. This means that babies could have two moms, two dads, or possibly in the future, a mixture of three or more parents.
On The Way There, And Fast. IVF is rapidly becoming a surefire way to conceive - and it’s getting better every day.
The Rise Of Solo Parenting? In theory, it’d also be possible for a child to be born through only one parent using this method.

Mass Sterilizations? If this became the new way people chose to have kids, would that mean that most people in first world countries would end up getting sterilized to prevent giving birth to a non-designer baby? It’s quite possible - and that would very likely make the birth rate drop, too.
A Rise To Post-Genderism? Some believe that the end to women giving birth could also mean an end to traditional gender roles. Could this also mean an end to gender inequality?
Que sera, sera. The world is going to be a very, very different place in the future.
