Rebel Girl: Kandi Von Kane

Post Image
Kandi Von Kane is a neo burlesque performer and a pinup model. Kandi is based in Sweden, in fact she even won Miss Pinup Scandinavia 2014. She travels a lot so you could well bump into her while in LA. She dances at burlesque festivals, burlesque clubs, pubs, tattoo conventions, company parties, stand-up clubs, on live TV and so on. She loves doing different things, read on to find out the many sides of this beautiful Swedish pinup.

I was a Suicide Girl, but then I left them and was on a couple of other sites. I do not quite know how all that happened haha, I had always hated Suicide Girls but then I got obsessed with becoming one so I did. I started doing more traditional pinup around the same time I started doing burlesque, about six years ago. I started doing it as a marketing thing for my shows but I recently realized that hey, I kind of like this equally much now and at the moment I am doing more pinup than burlesque. For me they are very close to each other though, and the one compliments the other. Also, my burlesque shows are very pinuppy.Have you always loved the pinup world? When did you start getting passionate about it?Somehow I have always loved it, yes. I had everything I could find with Bettie Page on it long before I got into pin up myself. I especially remember my metal lunchbox with Bettie Page on it… Once I hit a guy in the head with it so the lunch box got a buckle in it haha, . I also had black hair and Bettie bangs even though I was more of a punk-rocker. I actually would not say that I am passionate about the pinup world… There is a bit too much uptightness and bitterness going on. Thankfully though there are many awesome models and photographers in it too and because of them I really do love this world! What do you consider your career highlights so far?Last year I performed a couple of times in Los Angeles and it looks like I will do that this winter too. That is extremely fun and I am very proud of it. This summer I was talked into entering the Miss Pinup Scandinavia competition and somehow I won it! By winning that I became a part of the Miss Pinup International contest in London this September and, funny enough, I won that too! So even though I am not into contests at all, maybe especially not Pin up contests… I must say that those were some highlights for me! I also won this competition, Miss Lovely Legs, this year, which was a lot of fun! I could go on and on here because honestly I do enjoy almost all the shows I do, from the small ones at private parties to the big ones at fancy stages as well as TV shows. It is the same thing when it comes to pinup, I love being a pinup and surround myself with all the pretty things in this world. It is also of course very fun and honouring to be published so I have to say… all of my publications too, I cannot choose one :)

Photo by Jonas Mattsson[/caption]Do you travel a lot because of your job? Where do you feel most at home when far from home?I definitely feel most at home in Los Angeles, I love it over there. The palm trees, the light, the food! I do travel a lot, not only because of my job but I often happen to work when at the place I am travelling to, so maybe yes I could say yes on that one..Tell us about your tattoos. When did you get your first tattoo?I got my first tattoo about twelve years ago; it is the text “Live through this” around my ankle, both from the Hole song and as encouragement for me. I did that tattoo in some guys home. I have a sweet mix of colorful new school stuff, lots of nautical themes since I was a sailor since the day I was born, and also I have quite a lot of black little things with shaky lines haha… I do not regret any of my old scumfuc-tattoos though, they are all a part of me. Most of my more new school stuff is done by Erik Lundström at Buzzstop28, he is soon opening a new studio, it will be called Stormkungen and it will be in Gothenburg, Sweden. My old school stuff are done by Marcus Holmberg at Ekersgatan 13 in Örebro, Sweden. Are you planning on getting more tattoos in the near future?

I definitely do. As the crazy catl ady I am, I am currently doing a tattoo of my cats on the side of my body where they are transformed into these supercute bookmark-cats, that one will be finished next week. I will continue with the cute bookmark theme on the other side of my body too. Apart from that I have several plans, I will make one big tattoo in honor of my idol Tom of Finland, I do have some plans for my butt too… Well, I guess this will go on as long as I have empty skin left haha. What is your favourite tattoo style?I am really impressed by people who have only one style all over, like all the hot girls out there who are covered in real traditional, old school style. That is a style I like a lot. But also I am a fan of really cute and fluffy pastel stuff, mixed with cheap and badly done, political tattoos… oh wait, that is what I got haha! I like a lot of styles, it is an artform and as a former art history student I am drawn to tattoos on so many levels.Do you do burlesque and pinup for a living or do you also have another job? There are periods when I could do this for a living but I like to have burlesque and pinup as the glitter part in my life, not something I have to depend on to survive. Also, I love my other jobs and would not want to be without them. I do a lot of things, I work in a sex and porn shop, Martinshop, where I am also the brand manager for the gay-section. I work in an awesome clothing shop called El Bastardo. I have a mixed gay burlesque club called Kotton Kandi Klub, with my friend Kotton, and I have my own company, A Dollheart, where I teach burlesque to hen parties and other groups. It is quite a must for me to enjoy my jobs and what I do, since they take up so much time. I am really blessed to be able to do all the things that I do, and also that I can travel so much while doing them. You make your own life and decide what and who to put in it, and I am very happy with my choices. Before we go, tell us a random fact about you.I love GG Allin and popcorn.Do you love Kandi Von Jane as much as we do?
